About St. Louis Mills

St. Louis Mills, also known as St. Louis Outlet Mall, was a large shopping center located in Hazelwood, Missouri, a suburb northwest of St. Louis. The mall’s address was 5555 St. Louis Mills Boulevard, near Missouri Route 370, providing convenient access from major highways. Hazelwood is primarily a suburban area with a mix of residential neighborhoods, commercial zones, and light industrial parks. The region is not a tourist destination like beach areas but serves as a retail and business hub for the St. Louis metropolitan area. Originally opened in 2003, St. Louis Mills was developed by the Mills Corporation and featured a typical Mills mall design combining outlet stores, big-box retailers, and traditional mall tenants. The mall offered a diverse mix of shopping options, including fashion outlets such as Gap, Banana Republic, and Old Navy, along with footwear, sportswear, and some home goods stores. It also housed specialty retailers like Cabela’s, which was not an outlet but a large outdoor and sporting goods store. The mall included a food court with several well-known fast-food chains, providing dining options for visitors. Amenities included ample parking and an indoor ice rink that served as a practice facility for the St. Louis Blues hockey team, adding a unique recreational element to the mall environment. Despite its initial popularity, St. Louis Mills struggled with tenancy over the years and eventually closed as a retail mall in 2019, except for Cabela’s, which remained open. After closing, the site was repurposed into a sports complex called Powerplex STL from 2019 to 2023, before being redeveloped into the Hazelwood Business Park, a light industrial and office space facility. Typical mall hours before closure were generally 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM on weekdays and Saturdays, with shorter hours on Sundays from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Today, the original mall no longer operates as a shopping destination, reflecting the broader challenges faced by large outlet malls in suburban areas. The location remains accessible via major highways and continues to serve the Hazelwood community in its new business park capacity.
